Such industries manufacture tiny but high-precision parts which are widely applied in biomedical equipment, optical and micro-electronics (like mobile communication and computer components) industries and so on. The parts, requiring micro system process, have precision of no more than 5 mm, surface precision of no more than 0.2mm and part hardness of no less than 45HRC.

 

Micro-milling technology is a newly emerging processing technique used for manufacturing tiny and high precision parts. Through tiny cutting tools with the diameter of less than 0.1mm, micro-milling can achieve tiny surface tolerance and high quality surface precision. The common NC software cannot achieve the same precision as micro-milling. Due to the increasing complexity of part deformation, manufacturers should use special micron-sized cutting tools to process tiny parts requiring very high precision, for instance, parts with the diameter of 0.1mm.


To achieve high-precision surface, micro-milling technology should abide by the following requirements: cutting tools with the diameter of no more than 100mm; high-speed cutting tools with length-diameter ratio (L/D) of 10~100; spindle speed of no less than 150000r/min; machining tolerance of no more than 0.1mm; ability to modify geometric object.

 

Micro-milling technology, as high-speed milling technology, will developed rapidly and companies proficient in tiny and high precision technology will become more competitive in the future.
